My name is Pankaj Arora. I write, edit and manage this blog. It contains over 250 articles, insights and analysis on various aspects of sustainable development like Corporate Governance, Green Marketing, Urban Mobility, Sustainability strategies and best practices. For over 3 years, I’ve been following and capturing the sustainability debate with the sole aim to create a positive impact of sustainability in the business world by creating intelligent conversations around the subject.
By education I’m a Mechanical Engineer and have been related to the automotive field more or less during the 15 year career. Out of the 9 years that I’ve been working with the TATA group of India, 7 years were spent in Japan as part of various projects.
Engineers are logic driven creatures. But I always felt a gap that was not getting fulfilled by logic alone – the need for a purpose-driven work within a values based environment. To align those values in the workplace and fuel my passion for sustainability, I studied a rigorous 18 month global online Green MBA program in Sustainable Management from Anaheim University, USA, while in Japan. Suddenly the logic of people, planet and profits made sense – I understood the business case for sustainability!
In some ways, this blog is the direct result of the learnings from that Green MBA program.
Although this blog has been built part-time all along, I have made sure that the articles written are thoroughly researched and analyzed – both in the academic literature and in the mainstream media/company websites before forming any opinions of my own. The blog gives a full understanding of sustainability to any company starting out on its journey and a useful place for sustainability professionals. I give due credit to any external sources that have been used. There have been times when I’ve not written regularly and have accepted guest posts (sometimes re-writing the entire articles) from people who’ve been kind enough to give their services free of charge and I thank them for that. And needless to say, the readership has increased over the months and years. Sometimes, I’ve endorsed books, seminars other companies which I believe are making a difference in the corporate world.
I shifted back to India along with my family towards the end of 2011 until moving again to the UK in the early part of 2013. During my stay in India, I was fortunate enough to be invited to several international level sustainability conferences only because of this blog. Some of those conferences inlcuded CII-ITC Sustainability Summits, TERI’s Sustainable Development Summit, Nestlé’s Creating Shared Value Forum, Unilever’s USLP etc. And these gave me the opportunity to connect and build meaningful relationships with some respected authorities in this field – Dr R Pachauri, Pavan Sukhdev, John Elkington, Jonathon Porrit and many others.
I am excited at the endless possibilities of what sustainability practices have to offer – after all, sustainability is nothing but systems thinking and not moving the problems some place else.
Currently I’m living in the UK with my family and positioned at Jaguar Land Rover which incidentally was named as the “Responsible Business of the Year 2013″ by Business in the Community (BITC).
I’m a father to 2 lovely little children – a girl and a boy, and husband to a wonderful wife. I’m also passionate about a few other things – running, some rock music, writing – and I write about those passions on my other blog called Greeting Dawn at http://greetingdawn.wordpress.com/.
